BWH maintained its prestigious ranking on U.S. News & World Report 's annual Honor Roll of “America's Best Hospitals,” ranking twelfth on this year's list of 16 top hospitals. Massachusetts General Hospital ranked third, making BWH and its sister Partners HealthCare hospital the only New England hospitals on the Honor Roll.
Since 1989, U.S. News & World Report annually analyzes 17 specialties at thousands of American medical centers to compose its yearly honor roll. Of the thousands surveyed, just 176 hospitals scored high enough in at least one specialty to gain a prestigious place on the national rankings.
Out of approximately 6,000 hospitals, BWH ranked in the top 50 in nine specialties: Cancer, Cardiology, Hormonal Disorders, Digestive Disorders, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Kidney Disease, Respiratory, Rheumatology and Urology.
Other Partners members also earned high honors by ranking in their individual specialties. McLean Hospital ranked fourth among psychiatric programs and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital placed sixth among rehabilitation centers. Also, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, BWH's partner in cancer care, was fourth in cancer services.
